Founded in 1978, Kingstone provides secondary education to pupils aged 11-16.

Formed by the amalgamation of Broadway Grammar School with adjacent Charter Comprehensive during restructuring of the British education system, Kingstone has a capacity of approximately 1500 making it one of the largest schools in the area.

The Head teacher is Matthew Milburn, he succeeded original head of the school David J. Richards in September 2003.

Kingstone achieves consistently good GCSE results for the area, with 48.5% of the class of 2000–2006 achieving GCSE grades A*-C. This is very favourable on local league tables, although it still remains below the national average.

Under Local Authority education restructuring, Kingstone faces closure by 2012, with work on a new \"Learning Centre\" beginning on the site and the nearby Holgate School site starting in 2009.

The current Head Boy and Head Girl (2006) are Joseph Loukes and Kirstan Norman.

Uniform

All pupils must wear school uniform, including a school tie with the appropriate Year Group colour (see below).; School jumpers and cardigans must have the official school logo.; The school uniform is traditional in nature, and as such, fashion trends are not always appropriate for school wear. Mini/maxi skirts, sweatshirts and unsuitable/unsafe footware are not allowed.; Make-up and nail varnish must not be worn in school.; The only item of jewellery accepted is a wristwatch and body piercing is limited to one stud in each ear lobe. These items, if worn, must be removed for all PE activities.; No other form of jewellery or body piercing is allowed in school.;

*In severe weather, tracksuit bottoms may be worn at teachers' discretion
**In severe weather only, as a practical measure, the wearing of sensible boots will be permitted

School tie

There are 6 variants of the school tie, 5 of the same design with a different coloured stripe, and 1 \"Year 11 Tie\" which is optional for Year 11 (final year) students.

In the above extract from the school planner, \"...school tie with the appropriate Year Group colour\" refers to the coloured stripe on the 1^st design; a different colour is allocated to each year group, which allows easy identification of pupils within school.

The colours are rotated each year so that pupils need not buy more than one tie.

In 2006/07:

Year 7: White; Year 8: Green; Year 9: Black; Year 10: Blue; (Year 11: Yellow) - Most Y11 pupils choose to purchase the Year 11 tie;
